Stan Hywet Concours
Northern Ohio is again without a concours d’elegance.
First, the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles ended its 18-year run at Canton’s Glenmoor Country Club in 2012. After a hiatus in 2013, a concours was resurrected in 2014 at the Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron. Now, that event has been discontinued, as explained in the following media release:
December 4, 2014 – Akron, Ohio — Following a comprehensive assessment of the inaugural Concours d’Elegance at Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens held in September, Linda Conrad, President & Executive Director announced its decision to forgo an encore in 2015.
“The 2014 Concours made a wonderful impression with the classic car community, our guests and the media,” said Conrad. “We are pleased that it was successful and well-received, but have determined that producing an event of this size and scope, in addition to our five existing signature events, exceeded our sustainable capacity to support it during our 100th Anniversary year and beyond.” We were grateful for the opportunity to showcase the Estate, host the Concours and meet a wonderful new group of classic car enthusiasts and friends. Their support was instrumental to our success and greatly appreciated.”
2014 Concours Executive Director David Schultz added, “We produced a first class event in our very first year. The setting was spectacular. The show field contained some of the finest vintage American and European automobiles and motorcycles from throughout the United States and the event ran well under the direction of the Stan Hywet and Concours staffs. To be sustainable, though, the event had to strategically align with the resources of Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens. I applaud their commitment to continually achieving only the highest standards of excellence.”
